Classroom updates!
Dear families,
It feels like just yesterday you were sending your children off to their first day of kindergarten! It has been my privilege and pleasure to watch each child’s personality unfold day by day. Each child is a part of our classroom community, made new friends, and has grown so much academically and physically. In our classroom we have lived, laughed, loved, played, studied, learned, and enriched our lives together. Thank you for welcoming me into both your life and your child’s life, and putting your trust in me! I feel so lucky to have been their kindergarten teacher! Each one of your children will ALWAYS hold a very dear and special place in my heart. I hope you have a wonderful summer, and I can’t wait for them to stop by as first graders! Alyssa Anton P.S. If you would like to watch the video of Kindergarten memories, e-mail me and I can send you the link. Please be mindful that this is for your viewing pleasure only, and not to be shared. Thank you :) Greetings friends and families,
First off, I’d like to thank those of you who helped make our gingerbread unit a success. We had postcards from all over the country and WORLD! We received some from Italy, Australia, Chile, and England just to name a few! Without your help, the unit would not have been such a success. Our final postcard from the gingerbread man was received the Friday before vacation where we received a card from Santa, letting us know that the gingerbread man was safely at the North Pole! January is always a fun time in the classroom because the children start reading groups with me. Each group gets to pick a “Team Name” and read books in a small group. This week in our small groups, we worked on using our eagle eye when reading, which reminds the children to use their eyes to look at the picture to help figure out the word. We’ve also talked about the diagraph “CH” and the word AND. At this point in the year, we have practiced the words: CAN, IS, I, A, ME, THE, YOU. Dates to Remember: Monday, January 19- No School Wednesday, January 28- Early Release Enjoy your 3 day weekend! Miss Anton Here are some of the gingerbread the children have created. We've been working hard on ALL letters and sounds and will begin reading after our holiday break! This Friday, December 19 is our last day of school in 2014, and also POPCORN FRIDAY!
I hope everyone has safe and happy holidays. I look forward to seeing the children back on January 5th! See you all in 2015! Hello Families and Friends,
I hope you child will soon be talking about our new study of day and night. The excitement and interest level is very high. We kicked off the unit with a visit from the sandman. He wrote to our Kindergarten students, telling them they are going to be learning about the following things: day and night, the sun, twinkling stars, the moon, nocturnal animals, shadows, and much more. We will be celebrating our learning of Day and Night on Tuesday, November 25th. On that early release day of school, the children may wear their favorite pajamas to school. If your child does not want to wear pajamas they may wear comfy clothes instead. This will be a fun day of learning as we put this unit to “bed”. In Math, we will begin a new unit on what comes next. The focus of this unit is constructing and extending patterns. Their goals for this unit are: 1) Being able to copy, construct, and extend simple repeating patterns such as AB, ABC. 2) Begin to identify the unit of a repeating pattern. In Literacy, we’ve been working hard on rhyming words, beginning sounds, letters and the sounds they make, and determining how many syllables are in words. This week, we’ve also learned the word “IS”. We’ve practiced reading and writing the word “is” and using “is” in a sentence. They’re getting in the routine of doing centers, and working hard. It’s great to see how much they’ve grown and learned since September! Dates to remember: Friday, November 7- BOOK ORDER DUE Tuesday, November 11- Veteran’s Day- NO SCHOOL Tuesday, November 25- Early Release Day/PJ DAY Wednesday, November 26- Sunday, November 30- NO SCHOOL Happy Moon Watching! “Moon, moon, moon come back soon, I’ll miss you in the morning and in the afternoon…” Miss Anton Hello Families and Friends,
I’d like to start off by thanking ALL of you for coming to your child’s conference. It was great to sit down and discuss your children, and get to know all of you better. I appreciate you all taking the time to meet with me, and I look forward to meeting with you all again in February. Our apple picking field trip last week was a success. We learned a lot about the apple trees, and honeybees that live at the apple orchard. The children did a great job listening and following directions, and picked some yummy apples! This week we began Literacy centers. The children are broken into groups and work on different tasks that have to do with letters and sounds. As the year progresses these activities will be working with words, literacy skills such as rhyming and syllables and reading skills. In math, we began unit 2 which focuses on Counting and Comparing. The focus of this unit is on counting and comparing quantities and beginning to explore measurement by directly comparing objects to see which is longer. Our buckets are filling quickly and we’re working hard to follow our classroom rules that the students developed. These rules are: I can have a safe body. I can be respectful. I can take care of classroom materials. I can learn and have fun. I’d also like to thank those of you who ordered books in our last book order! We were able to get 6 new books for our classroom from all the points! I will be sending home another book order in the upcoming weeks. DATES TO REMEMBER: Wednesday, October 29- Early Release Day I hope you have a great weekend, and thank you again for all your cooperation! It’s greatly appreciated. Miss Anton Hello Kindergarten Families and Friends,
We’ve had a great first couple of weeks in Kindergarten! We’ve been busy learning classroom routines and procedures, as well as getting familiar with each other and materials in our classroom. The children have been experimenting with Math manipulatives and getting familiar with our calendar routine. We have also welcomed 4 butterflies, while one is still in the chrysalis stage. The blue folders have been working really well. Continue to send them in daily with important information for me, and I will do the same for you. On Fridays, I send the folders home with work the children have been completing over the course of the week. They will receive one of four things, a 3+, 3, 2, 1. 3+= Excellent Work! Extra effort and 100% correct! 3= Met benchmark 2= Partially meets. 1 = lack of effort, needs to try harder This year I will be doing monthly book orders. If you would like to order books for your children, I will send home a Scholastic flyer monthly. I will post the due date for the book orders on my website. If you are ordering books from the flyer sent home today, the book orders are due back Friday, September 26. Our class code to order online is L4BJ7. All books purchased through our class website or through me will help us earn points for books for our classroom library. I am interested in having volunteers in our classroom this year. If you are interested in helping out, please let me know the days you are available. Due to a change in schedule, our specials go as follows: Library is on Monday, Art is Tuesday, Gym is Thursday and Music is on Friday. Next Friday the children will need headphones for computer. Please send these in a labeled Ziploc bag. The headphones will remain in the classroom for the year. Lastly, in your child’s folder this week is an “All about Me” paper. Please complete this folder with your family by Monday, September 29. The children will be sharing these papers with the class. Feel free to add pictures, or draw them! This is a way for me to get to know the children better, as well as their classmates! REMINDERS Wednesday, September 24- EARLY RELEASE DAY-Dismissal 12:30 Friday, October 10-Apple Orchard Field Trip Every Monday we have Library.
