Dear Families and Friends,
Can you believe it’s almost time to set sail on our adventure together? It’s going to be a fun year filled with lots of learning, and new adventures, and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us. I can’t wait to learn more about you and, but first I’m going to tell you a few things about me. I went to college at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham and Portland. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, my K-8 teaching certification, and my Master’s Degree in Education. This is my fifth year teaching at Skillin School. Before teaching at Skillin, I taught 1st grade in Biddeford and Waterboro, as well as kindergarten in Scarborough. I love calling Skillin my home! So far this summer I have attended several Red Sox games, spent lots of time reading by the pool, and relaxing at the beach. I’ve also adopted a puppy, named Fenway, who will join my 9 year old dog, Cami. I can’t wait to hear about your summer! There are a couple things to know before we set sail into the school year. Please send your child to school with a healthy snack and a cool drink (a bag lunch and a cool drink if needed)! We’ll have snack time every morning and your child will need a snack each day. Please remember, all classrooms are nut-free. School lunch is available for purchase every day, even on the first day of school. Instead of creating a newsletter, I have a classroom website for you to check at your convenience to see what we’ve been learning and doing in the classroom. Check it out at Skillin School’s website. We will be having a “Meet and Greet” on Wednesday, August 31 from 5:00-6:00. This is an opportunity for you and your child to visit me and our classroom. Our classroom is room 107. I hope you’re all having a wonderful summer, and I look forward to seeing you all at the end of the month! Thank you, Miss Anton☺ P.S. More information about classroom routines, specials, and other information will go home the first week of school. On Wednesday, February 24 we celebrated our 100th day of Kindergarten! We did many activities to celebrate the 100th day of school. We shared our collections of 100 things, we did 100 exercises, we made a gum ball machine with 100 gum balls (10 groups of 10), and many more!
I just want to thank you all for your help, support, and cooperation over the last 100 days of school. Seeing you all at conferences, and having the children show you what they've learned so far has been so rewarding! It's been so amazing to watch each child grow over the year! THANK YOU ALL! It's been a busy couple of weeks in Kindergarten. We've been studying day and night (the moon, nocturnal animals) and learning new letters and words! The children have been doing a great job at both Literacy and Math Centers. It's so exciting to see how much they've grown already!
So far we've learned the letters/sounds: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, R, S, T, U The words we have worked with so far have been: I, A, ME, SEE, IS, YOU Yesterday, the kindergarten presented at the Whole School Community Meeting. We sang songs, named nocturnal animals, and shared facts about bats and owls. The children did an amazing job, and made us proud! Here are some pictures from our meeting! Great job to our 6 speakers! Things to Remember: Tuesday, November 24- Early Release 12:30 Wednesday, November 25-Sunday, November 29- No School Tuesdays- Return Library Books Thursdays- Remember sneakers for gym! Thanks for all you do! Miss Anton Today was a successful apple picking field trip. The kids were AWESOME, and we enjoyed the apple picking and tractor ride! Thank you to all the volunteers who came with us!
We have been practicing letters and the sounds they make to get us ready for reading! So far we have learned the letters B, M, N, F, T, C, and A! Stay tuned for more updates soon : Happy Friday! Yesterday, we had a special visit from Chewonki. Chewonki brought in 3 Maine owls, and the children were on their best behavior and enjoyed this special visit! We will be learning more about owls next month when we study Day and Night!
Thank you to all of you that joined "Remind." Many of you have asked, and if you message me, it does only go to me. So if you have any questions, concerns, or something you need to tell me, that is the best way to reach me :) Enjoy your long weekend! Miss Anton Also, many of you have noticed that on Friday afternoons I send home the children’s work from the whole week.
This week has been the first week that I have been “grading” their work. 3= Excellent Work! Extra effort and 100% correct! 2+= Almost all correct, lots of effort! 2= Some right, some wrong, or lack of effort and all correct. 1 = Lots of wrong answers, no effort, needs to try harder If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]! .At the end of each day, the children will receive a paper apple, which they will color the apple either red, yellow, or green. A green apple means they had a good/great day! A yellow apple means they received a warning, and needed to be redirected and lost 5 minutes of explore/free choice time. A red apple means they received multiple warnings, and I had to keep redirecting them, and they miss 10 minutes of explore/free choice time. This will help starting a conversation with your kindergartener about what kind of day they had! Dates to remember: Friday, October 9- No School Monday, October 12- No School Friday, October 16- Apple Picking Field Trip Tuesday, October 27- Picture Day! Hope you all had a good weekend! Miss Anton In order to receive classroom updates straight to your phone to make things easier, you can text the number 81010 and text the message @26bb2 . These will be updates and reminders personally from me!
